MARIA ROSA JIJON

María Rosa Jijón was born in 1968 in Quito, Ecuador. She studied Art at the Universidad Central del Ecuador and followed specialty courses at the Instituto Superior de Arte in Habana, Cuba. She carried out her post-graduate work at the Kungliga Konsthogskolan, Royal School of Arts in Stockholm, Sweden. Jijon currently works and lives in Rome, Italy where she has developed several photographic projects and sociological research, relating to the situation of men and women immigrants in Italy. Her work was selected to participate in the Trienal Poligrafica de San Juan, Puerto Rico 2004 and at the VIII Bienal Internacional de Cuenca in 2004. Ms. Jijón is also a migrant rights activist with Associazione Donne Immigrate ONLUS, where she participates in multicultural education projects and cultural promotion.
